Writing

Mini Lesson and Focus 

Each day we will start our writing with a mini lesson. Our mini lessons will include a grammar lesson and an introduction/lesson on a certain writing genre: Report, How To, Narrative, Poetry, Descriptive, Letter, ect...

Independent Writing 

After each mini lesson the students will go back to their seats and work on the writing genre taught. Once that piece of writing is complete, then the students will have time to free write.

 Writing Conferencing and Editing Station

Each day I will meet with about 5 students individually. We will look at their writing piece and talk about their stories together and discuss their writing strengths and writing goals. We will look at past writing strengths and goals and see if they have met those goals from before. I will then model their new goal strategies and we will talk about how they can reach that goal.

 Author's Day

At the end of each writing time, the students will get a day to read their stories to the class on the karaoke machine. After the student has finished reading their story, the other students will then get a chance to tell the author what they did well and what they think the author could do to make their story even better.
